Xi Jinping Meets with Speaker of the Serbian Parliament

On the afternoon of August 26, 2011, Vice President Xi Jinping met with visiting Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Slavica Djukic Dejanovic at the Great Hall of the People.

Calling Serbia an "all-weather friend" of China, Xi said the two countries have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation in economy, trade and culture since the establishment of their strategic partnership in 2009. "China respects Serbia's territorial and sovereignty integrity, as well as its choice of the development path based on its national conditions. We appreciate Serbia's adherence to the one-China policy," Xi said. China attaches importance to developing the strategic partnership with Serbia. He added that China will join hands with Serbia to strengthen exchanges between governments, parliaments and political parties in order to enhance mutual political trust. Xi also called on the two sides to expand bilateral trade and investment to achieve mutual benefit. He suggested both sides deepen cultural exchanges and carry forward China-Serbia traditional friendship to bring more tangible benefits to both countries and their peoples.

Xi also introduced at request the achievements and experience of China's economic and social development.

Dejanovic said the high-ranking delegation she led showcased the strong will of Serbia's parliament, government and political parties to promote relations with China. To enhance friendly relations with China is one of the four pillars of Serbia's foreign policy. Dejanovic said the development of Serbia-China strategic partnership will strongly promote the economic, social and cultural progress of Serbia. She also reiterated Serbia's consistent adherence to the one-China policy.
