On October 5, 2016 local time, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski of Peru met in Lima with visiting Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said that Peru speaks highly of bilateral relations and is devoted to promoting bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation. Last month, he paid a very successful visit to China and reached a great deal of consensus with President Xi Jinping on developing bilateral relations. The Peruvian side is willing to work with China to maintain high-level exchanges, promote practical cooperation in mining, investment, infrastructure and other fields, reinforce coordination in international and regional issues and jointly boost Latin America-China overall cooperation. Peru hopes that the upcoming 24th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Peru can push for new steps towards the construction of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP). Pedro Pablo Kuczynski also warmly invited President Xi Jinping to attend the APEC meeting and pay a state visit to Peru next month.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings to Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, and said that the fact that Mr. President chose China as the first country to visit since taking office not only fully embodies the great attention you attach to China as well as the high level of China-Peru relations, but also shows that China-Peru friendship has solid social and public opinion foundation. It is the unanimous consensus of the Peruvian government and people, and will not be affected by the changing domestic and international situation. The Chinese side is willing to, together with Peru, earnestly implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen experience exchanges in governance and administration of state affairs, push forward major bilateral cooperation projects, launch negotiations on the upgrade of bilateral free trade agreement at a proper time, enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs and constantly add new connotations to China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership. China thanks Mr. President for inviting President Xi Jinping to attend the APEC meeting and pay a state visit to Peru. Both sides should well prepare for this. The Chinese side stands ready to render utmost support to Peru to ensure the success of the APEC meeting, and is willing to work with Peru to facilitate the FTAAP construction, safeguard the principle of free trade and deepen regional integration process.
