On October 27, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi co-hosted the fourth meeting of the Political and Diplomatic Sub-committee of China-Saudi Arabia High-level Joint Committee with Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.

Wang Yi briefed Faisal on the great significance of the 20th CPC National Congress, noting that the most important outcome of the Congress is that a new central leadership with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has been elected, which reflects the high degree of consensus of the whole Party and the people across the country. Under the continued guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the giant vessel of China will continue to sail steadfastly forward in the right direction, riding the wind and cleaving the waves, to deliver the development strategies and goals set out at the 20th National Congress.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side attaches great importance to developing relations with Saudi Arabia, taking Saudi Arabia as a priority in its overall diplomacy, its Middle East diplomacy in particular. China appreciates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the one-China principle, and is grateful for Saudi Arabia’s long-standing and staunch support to China on issues related to China's core interests, including Xinjiang, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and human rights. China appreciates Saudi Arabia’s support for the Global Development Initiative (GDI) put forward by China, and welcomes Saudi Arabia’s actively participation in the implementation of the GDI. China also appreciates Saudi Arabia’s pursuit of an independent energy policy and its active efforts to maintain stability in the international energy market. China supports Saudi Arabia in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs, and stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Saudi Arabia on hot-spot issues in the Middle East, so as to jointly uphold regional peace and stability. China is also ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Saudi Arabia at the United Nations, BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, G20 and other multilateral platforms to practice multilateralism and uphold international fairness and justice.

Faisal expressed congratulations on the successful conclusion of the 20th CPC National Congress. Faisal said that Saudi Arabia and China have established high-level political mutual trust, achieved fruitful outcomes in cooperation, carried out close coordination and communication, and safeguarded common interests. Saudi Arabia-China High-level Joint Committee has played an important role in promoting the development of Saudi Arabia-China relations. In developing relations with other countries, Saudi Arabia always puts its China relations high on the agenda. His country is committed to the one-China policy, firmly opposes interference in China's internal affairs, and firmly rejects politicization of the human rights issue. Saudi Arabia is grateful for China’s support for the just cause of the Arab people and its support for the establishment of a Weapons-of-Mass-Destruction-Free Zone in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia appreciates China’s initiative for building a multilateral dialogue platform in the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia stands ready to work with China to further enhance practical cooperation in the political, economic, investment, and other fields.
