Wang Yi Meets with New Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov

On November 27, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with new Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov.

Wang Yi welcomed Morgulov to China to assume his new post, and said that the Chinese side will continue to provide strong support and assistance to Mr. Ambassador in his work in China.

Wang Yi pointed out that China and Russia are committed to promoting a multipolar world and oppose unipolar hegemony. Both countries are committed to upholding the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core and the international order based on international law, and reject power politics. This position is on the right side of history and conforms to the trend of the times. No matter how the international situation may evolve, China and Russia, as two major countries and neighbors, will constantly advance strategic mutual trust and practical cooperation, deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between the two countries, and jointly uphold international fairness and justice.

Wang Yi briefed on the important achievements and far-reaching significance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and said that China is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with Russia, strengthen communication and coordination, and support each other in their respective development and revitalization. He called on the two sides to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and steadily advance practical cooperation in various fields to bring more benefits to the two peoples. The two sides need to strengthen coordination and cooperation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS countries to safeguard peace and stability in the region and the world at large.

Morgulov extended warm congratulations on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress and President Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and said that the Russia-China relationship is unbreakable and the friendship between the two countries can overcome any challenge. Russia supports China's development and growth and is ready to work with China, under the guidance of the two heads of state, to further advance bilateral relations, deepen all-round cooperation, and take the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination to a new height. Russia is committed to working with China to resist unipolar hegemony and uphold the international order based on international law and the UN Charter.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
