On August 1, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Dato Seri Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof of Brunei in Bangkok, Thailand.

Wang Yi said, China-Brunei relations have developed smoothly, becoming a model of mutual understanding, mutual respect, mutual support and peaceful coexistence between large and small countries. Taking the important consensuses reached by the two heads of state as the driving force, both sides should seize the opportunity of the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative to advance the construction of the Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor, promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges in various forms and deepen practical cooperation across the board. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Bruneian side to actively conduct maritime cooperation, advance the conclusion of the consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea as scheduled, and safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Dato Seri Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof said, Brunei-China relations are a model of mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win results. President Xi Jinping upgraded bilateral relations to the strategic cooperative partnership during his visit to Brunei. The Bruneian side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation and push for greater development of Brunei-China relations.
