Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Meets with Cambodian Ambassador to China Khek Cai Mealy Sysoda

On January 17, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with Cambodian Ambassador to China Khek Cai Mealy Sysoda.

Sun Weidong briefed the ambassador on the epoch-making significance and important outcomes of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He emphasized that China remains steadfast in pursuing peaceful development, deepening reform and expanding opening up, and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, remains committed to building a human community with a shared future, and will create new opportunities for the common development of Cambodia and all other countries in the world, and China-Cambodia relations. China adapts its COVID response measures in light of the latest situation, to better facilitate the safe and orderly cross-border travel of Chinese and foreign nationals. China appreciates that Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and various sectors of the society of Cambodia warmly welcome Chinese tourists, and believes that friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Cambodia will achieve greater development.

Sun Weidong noted that this year marks the beginning of full implementation of the guiding principles laid down at the 20th CPC National Congress, as well as the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and the Year of China-Cambodia Friendship. China cherishes the iron-clad friendship between China and Cambodia, and stands ready to work with Cambodia to truly implement the important common understandings reached between the leaders of both countries, carry forward our lasting friendship, strengthen strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly advance the building of the China-Cambodia community with a shared future, so as to set an example for a new type of international relations.

Sysoda spoke highly of the 20th CPC National Congress. She expressed her belief that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, China will make greater contributions to peace, stability, development and prosperity of the world. Cambodia opens wide to welcome Chinese tourists, and will not take any discriminatory measures against them. Cambodia thanks China for its long-standing support to the development of Cambodia, and is ready to work with China towards more practical outcomes in the building of the Cambodia-China community with a shared future.
