Cai Qi Meets with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

On August 31, 2025, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee Cai Qi met in Tianjin with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit 2025.

Cai Qi said that President Xi Jinping just held a productive meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which they reached new and important common understandings on the development of China-India relations, charting the course for advancing cooperation featuring good-neighborliness and friendship between the two countries. China is ready to work with India to follow through on the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, enhance friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation, properly manage and handle differences, and promote the further improvement and development of China-India relations.

Narendra Modi said that he had just reached new and important common understandings with President Xi Jinping on the long-term development of India-China relations, which provides a solid foundation for deepening bilateral cooperation. The Indian side welcomes the resumption of the inter-party exchange and cooperation mechanism. Noting that the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China represents another milestone in the development of bilateral relations, Narendra Modi said that India is willing to make joint efforts with China to contribute to the advancement of bilateral relations as well as world peace and development.
