Wang Yi Meets with Myanmar Cabinet Minister Kyaw Tint Swe and Others

On December 7, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Myanmar's Minister of the Office of the State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe, Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations & National Security Adviser Thaung Tun, Minister of Construction Han Zaw, Minister of International Cooperation Kyaw Tin at Naypyidaw.

The two sides agreed that China-Myanmar relations are facing new and important development opportunities, and we should take the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity, to jointly carry forward the "Pauk-Phaw" friendship between the two countries, and push the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Myanmar to a new level.

Wang Yi and the Myanmar Ministers fully affirmed the progress made in the joint construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC), and agreed to speed up the implementation of the border economic cooperation zone and cooperation in the fields of electricity, transportation, and so on, so as to make CMEC another signature project between China and Myanmar for the joint construction of "Belt and Road Initiative".

Wang Yi said, Yunnan Province of China is linked to Myanmar by mountains and rivers, and has been actively committed to developing friendly exchanges with Myanmar. The two sides should be encouraged to give full play to their regional advantages, expand economic, trade, and person-to-person exchanges, and deepen local cooperation.

Wang Yi said that China has always been highly concerned about the situation in Rakhine State, and is willing to continue to provide assistance to the Myanmar side in carrying out the repatriation and resettlement of the displaced people, promoting economic development and improving people's livelihood in the Rakhine state.

The Myanmar Ministers thanked China for its support for Myanmar's economic and social development over the years, and expressed the hope that China will continue to play an important and active role in the Rakhine State issue. Myanmar is willing to work with China to jointly build "Belt and Road Initiative" and the CMEC to promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and deepen exchanges and cooperation with Yunnan Province and other neighboring regions of China.

On the same day, Wang Yi also attended the signing ceremony of cooperation projects between the competent departments of the two countries.
