On 8 June, President Xi Jinping and President U Win Myint exchanged congratulatory messages on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar.

Xi noted in his message that over the past 70 years, the traditional "pauk-phaw" friendship between the two countries has stood the test of time and remained rock-solid. The two nations have benefited from the growth of this bilateral relationship and deepening cooperation across the board. In the fight against COVID-19, the two sides have supported and looked out for each other in a spirit of solidarity that defines the China-Myanmar community with a shared future, come rain or shine. Recalling his successful state visit to Myanmar in January, Xi highlighted the important understanding he had reached with President U Win Myint on building such a community in the new context, which has since brought the bilateral ties into a new era.

Xi underlined that China-Myanmar relations are at a critical juncture in a world that faces changes unseen in a century. Reaffirming his commitment to China-Myanmar relations, Xi expressed his readiness to work with President U Win Myint to enhance high-level exchanges, consolidate political trust, deepen practical cooperation and step up coordination and cooperation in multilateral institutions, all in an effort to build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future and see that the two peoples will forever be good neighbors, good friends, good partners and good "pauk-phaws".

Win Myint extended warm congratulations on the success of China's NPC and CPPCC sessions, and expressed heartfelt appreciation for China's valuable assistance and strong support to Myanmar's COVID-19 response and economic and social development. Marking the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, the two countries agreed to build a Myanmar-China community with a shared future. He stressed his conviction that the upgrading of ties will further deepen their mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi also exchanged congratulatory messages. Li expressed China's readiness to work with Myanmar under the new circumstances to implement the understandings reached by the two presidents. Development strategies will be synergized at a faster pace, and cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor will be deepened to add more substance to the China-Myanmar community with a shared future. Aung San Suu Kyi noted that Belt and Road cooperation and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor will benefit the two peoples. She expressed Myanmar's readiness to work with China to strengthen their friendly relations and practical cooperation.
