2020-01-18 15:09

On the afternoon of January 17, 2020 local time, President Xi Jinping held talks with Myanmar President U Win Myint in Nay Pyi Taw.

Xi Jinping expressed, today is China's Little New Year. On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, I wish the government and people of Myanmar a happy new year. Xi Jinping noted, I chose Myanmar as the destination of my first overseas trip this year when the two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, highlighting the great importance to our "pauk-phaw" friendship and to the deepening of bilateral relations. I hope this visit could send three messages. First, the Chinese government and people firmly support the Myanmar government and people in pursuing a development path suited to its own national conditions and in continuously promoting its own national development. Second, China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has enjoyed a sound foundation, and our joint efforts to build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future will inject new impetus and vitality into the development of bilateral relations. Third, the Chinese side stands ready to work together with the Myanmar side in actively advancing practical cooperation and speeding up the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Myanmar's development strategies, so as to score more fruitful outcomes in bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation and bring more benefits to the two peoples. The Chinese side will join hands with the Myanmar side to carry forward traditional "pauk-phaw" friendship, map out a development blueprint and open up a new era for China-Myanmar relations.

Xi Jinping stressed, we have just commemorated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The great development achievements China has scored over the past 70 years demonstrate that the development path selected by the Chinese people is successful. For this reason, we will continue to follow the path unswervingly. We have full confidence in China's future. China is committed to peaceful development and will never seek hegemony. To this end, I proposed the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, hoping that all countries in the global village could live in harmony and achieve mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. Building a community with a shared future starts from neighbors. China adheres to creating an amicable, secure and prosperous neighborhood. China never imposes its own will on others in external cooperation and never interferes in internal affairs of other countries. China rejects the thinking of winner-take-all. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Myanmar side to steadily advance the construction of key cooperation projects in the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor within the framework of jointly building the BRI, bringing local people more benefits and giving them stronger a sense of fulfillment and happiness. The Chinese side will also continue to firmly support the Myanmar side in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests and national dignity on the international stage.

On behalf of the Myanmar government and people, U Win Myint extended a warm welcome to President Xi Jinping, believing that the visit will be a historic one and open up a new chapter in bilateral relations. U Win Myint congratulated the People's Republic of China on the great achievements over the past 70 years, and expressed the hope that China will share more experience in state governance and administration with Myanmar and other developing countries. U Win Myint had confidence that China's success will provide useful reference for Myanmar in economic development, improvement of people's livelihood and poverty elimination. Appreciating China's understanding and support on issues concerning Myanmar's Rakhine state among others, U Win Myint praised China's constructive role in Myanmar's peace process. The Myanmar side firmly adheres to the One China principle, respects the "one country, two systems" policy China has implemented in Hong Kong and Macao, and has always recognized Taiwan as an inalienable part of China's territory. The Myanmar side supports the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind proposed by President Xi Jinping and stands ready to actively build a Myanmar-China community with a shared future with the Chinese side. The Chinese side has offered selfless support to Myanmar's economic and social development. Bilateral cooperation covers people's livelihood and environmental protection. Both countries have been promoting the construction of the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor within the framework of the BRI, which is of great significance to Myanmar's national development. It is believed that as bilateral cooperation deepens, Myanmar-China relations will witness greater development.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and others were present.
