On January 12, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Myanmar's Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Min Aung Hlaing in Nay Pyi Taw.

Wang Yi said, China appreciates that the Myanmar military takes national revitalization as its mission, thinks about the future development of its country from a long-term perspective, makes commitment to the traditional friendship between China and Myanmar and promotes the "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship between the two countries. China and Myanmar have reached significant political consensus on building the China-Myanmar community with a shared future during President Xi Jinping's historic state visit to Myanmar last year. The main purpose of Wang Yi's trip to Myanmar on invitation is to communicate in depth with Myanmar on how to implement the results of President Xi Jinping's state visit to Myanmar and exchange views on developing bilateral ties in the next stage. Building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future firstly shows the firm mutual support of the two sides as "Paukphaw" brothers. China will continue to back Myanmar in safeguarding its sovereignty, national dignity and legitimate rights and interests, supporting the country in pursuing a development path suited to its own national conditions and the Myanmar military in playing a due role in and making positive contributions to the process of the country's transformation and development. He believes that Myanmar will continue to give China staunch support on issues involving China's core interests and the two countries will be bound to continuously deepen their "Paukphaw" friendship.

Wang Yi said, China and Myanmar have agreed in principle on implementing the action plan for building the China-Myanmar community with a shared future, hoping the Myanmar military can make new contributions to the common goal of the two countries. To help Myanmar defeat the pandemic, China has decided to provide the country with assistance of vaccines and medical supplies and actively encouraged Chinese enterprises to carry out further vaccine cooperation with Myanmar. As a signature project of building the China-Myanmar community with a shared future, China hopes the construction of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC) will unfold on a full scale after the new government is formed to help Myanmar's development and revitalization, and also believes that the Myanmar military will provide further support in this regard.

Min Aung Hlaing said, Myanmar is very pleased to witness China's rising international status and influence, and will remain dedicated to deepening the Myanmar-China friendship and enhancing its all-round cooperation with China, and continuously support China's stance on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang. He thanked China for helping Myanmar combat the pandemic. The Myanmar military supports the two countries in accelerating the construction of the CMEC despite the pandemic disruptions, and is willing to communicate with China on maintaining national stability, promoting economic development and strengthening social unity. China is a good friend of Myanmar forever, and Myanmar-China friendly cooperation will certainly go increasingly deeper, in which the Myanmar military stands ready to continuously play an active role.
