President Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan

On July 4, 2013, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Xi Jinping praised Prime Minister Sharif for being a senior Pakistani statesman as well as an old friend of the Chinese people, who has remained committed to promoting China-Pakistan friendship and made significant contributions to bolstering the bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping said, China and Pakistan are good neighbours, good friends, partners and brothers. The friendship between the two countries is deeply rooted and unbreakable. The two sides have conducted all-weather strategic cooperation. It is the precious treasure shared by the two countries as well as the solid foundation for the future development of the bilateral relations. It is a priority of China's relations with neighbouring countries to strengthen China-Pakistan strategic cooperative partnership. We should carry forward traditional friendship and uplift the level of practical cooperation. Hope the two countries will strengthen overall planning, steadily move froward the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, bilateral connectivity and other key projects, and promote complementary advantages and integrated interests to achieve common development.

Sharif said that the Pakistani people cherish the brotherly friendship between Pakistan and China. Pakistan thanks China for the long time valuable support and help. He took China as the first country for his visit abroad after taking office. It is aimed to consolidate and develop good-neighbourly and friendly relations between the two countries. Pakistan is now making every effort to develop its economy and to safeguard domestic security. It is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in all fields. Pakistan attaches great importance to economic and infrastructure connectivity between the two countries so as to boost the development of the two countries and of the region. Pakistan welcomes investment from Chinese businesses and encourages personnel exchanges between the two countries. Pakistan is willing to create a safe and favourable environment for this.

Both sides as well exchanged views on relevant international and regional issues.

President Xi Jinping's wife Peng Liyuan and State Councilor Yang Jiechi were present.
