China and the Philippines Hold the Meeting Between Heads of the China-Philippines Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea

On September 11, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Maria Theresa P. Lazaro jointly held the meeting between heads of the China-Philippines Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea (BCM) in Beijing.

The two sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on the maritime issues between China and the Philippines, in particular the issue of Xianbin Jiao. The Chinese side reiterated its principled position on the issue of Xianbin Jiao and urged the Philippine side to immediately withdraw relevant vessels. China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty and the seriousness and effectiveness of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC). Both sides agreed to continue to maintain communication through diplomatic channels including the BCM.
