On December 12, 2022, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a video meeting with Foreign Minister Park Jin of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Wang Yi said that the successful meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Yoon Suk-yeol in Bali not long ago has charted the course for the development of China-ROK relations in the next stage. As the international and regional situation is undergoing complex changes, China is ready to work with the ROK to earnestly implement the important common understandings reached between the two presidents, and build on past achievements to promote the long-term and steady development of China-ROK relations to better benefit the two countries and peoples.

Wang Yi briefed Park Jin on the major achievements and great significance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He stressed that China will unswervingly keep to the path of peaceful development, stay committed to its fundamental national policy of opening to the outside world, and pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up. All this will bring benefits to other countries, and create new opportunities for the development of China-ROK relations.

Wang Yi said this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the ROK. China is ready to work with the ROK to stick to the direction of good-neighborliness, strengthen strategic communication, and focus on win-win cooperation, to promote sound and steady development of China-ROK relations. The two sides will also work jointly to keep the industrial and supply chains secure and unimpeded, safeguard the international free trade system, and strengthen coordination and cooperation on regional and global issues.

Wang Yi made clear China's position on the US enactment of the so-called Chips and Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act, and its rejection of the WTO ruling that the US has violated WTO rules. He stressed that the US acts have obviously damaged the legitimate rights and interests of other countries including China and the ROK, and have proven once again that it is a breaker rather than a builder of international rules. All countries should step forward to jointly resist this obsolete de-globalization mentality and unilateral act of bullying, and jointly safeguard and practice true multilateralism.

Park Jin extended the ROK's congratulations on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress, saying that the ROK expects China to continue to grow and prosper and make greater contributions to peace and stability in Northeast Asia and the world at large. The ROK applauds the recent bilateral meeting between the two presidents in Bali, and regards it as a milestone in the two countries’ efforts to open a new era of ROK-China cooperation based on mutual respect and mutual benefit. The ROK is ready to work with China to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, strengthen high-level exchanges and communication, deepen trade and economic cooperation, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, to constantly take bilateral relations to higher levels.

The two sides also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
