On September 27 and 28, 2021, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque and Iranian Ambassador to China Mohammad Keshavarz-Zadeh, respectively, and exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and cooperation related to Afghanistan under multilateral mechanisms with the two ambassadors.

Liu Jinsong elaborated on China's policy toward Afghanistan, stressing that the two sides should implement the consensus reached at the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Afghan Issue Among the Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan and the Informal Meeting of Foreign Ministers of China, Russia, Pakistan and Iran on the Afghan Issue, support the Afghan people in choosing their own development path and push the new Afghan government to realize inclusiveness, counter terrorism and seek good-neighborliness. The United States bears the primary responsibility for Afghanistan's reconstruction and cannot simply shift the burden onto others and withdraw from the country with the mess left behind unattended. China is ready to step up coordination with countries in the region to promote peace, security and stability in the region.

Ambassador Haque said, history has proved time and again that there is no military solution to the Afghan issue. Afghanistan's neighbors look forward to peace and stability in Afghanistan. Ambassador Keshavarz-Zadeh said, ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan serves not only the interests of the Afghan people, but also the common interests of all countries in the region. Iran is ready to maintain close communication with relevant parties and make joint efforts to push for a steady transition in Afghanistan.
