On August 21, 2016, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Syrian Issue Xie Xiaoyan visited Iraq, during which he met with Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Minister of Culture Faryad Raundozi as well as Advisors to the President of Iraq Mowaffak Al Rubaie and Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, and held talks with Head of the Arab Department of the Foreign Ministry Habeeb Muhammed Hadi Al-Sader of Iraq. H.E. Chen Weiqing, Chinese Ambassador to Iraq attended above events. Both sides exchanged views on the Syrian issue. On August 22, Xie Xiaoyan gave a joint interview to the mainstream media outlets of Iraq and introduced China’s principled stance and proposals concerning the political settlement of the Syrian issue.
