Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li Holds the Third Round of Political Consultations Between Chinese and Iraqi Foreign Ministries with Iraq's First Deputy Foreign Minister Khalula

On June 24, 2021, Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li held the third round of political consultations between Chinese and Iraqi Foreign Ministries with Iraq's First Deputy Foreign Minister Khalula via video link.

Deng Li said, Iraq is one of the first Arab states to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 63 years ago, the two countries have always understood, trusted and supported each other. In 2015, China and Iraq established a strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to deepen political mutual trust with Iraq, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the pandemic response, energy and infrastructure, and expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, to promote China-Iraq relations to a new height. China appreciates the unique role played by Iraq in the Middle East affairs and is ready to strengthen communication with Iraq and make unremitting efforts to safeguard and promote regional peace and stability.

Khalula expressed his congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. He said, Iraq attaches great importance to developing relations with China and thanks China for providing valuable support for its fight against COVID-19. Iraq is willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation with China under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Iraq. Iraq is also ready to work with China to uphold multilateralism, oppose external interference and safeguard the interests of developing countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional hotspot issues.
