On January 24, 1992, China and Israel established diplomatic relations. In March 2017, China and Israel announced the establishment of an innovative comprehensive partnership.
Important visits from the Chinese side in recent years: Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang (September 2016), Vice President Wang Qishan (October 2018), Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Wang Yang (November 2015), Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Liu Yandong (March 2016), among others.
Important visits from the Israeli side: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (March 2017), President Shimon Peres (April 2014), Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Silvan Shalom (October 2015), Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Yoel Edelstein (April 2016).
In 2014, China and Israel established the Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation, which has held five meetings to this day. In 2024, the bilateral trade volume between China and Israel reached USD 22.7 billion, of which China's exports amounted to USD 14.3 billion and imports totaled USD 8.4 billion.
The two sides signed agreements on science and technology cooperation and the agreement on the China-Israel Science and Strategic R&D Fund. The two sides have worked together to build innovation demonstration parks such as the China Israel Changzhou Innovation Park and the China-Israel Innovation Hub (Shanghai).
In 1993, the two countries signed an agreement on cultural cooperation and have hitherto signed eight annual implementation plans, promoting considerable progress in bilateral exchanges and cooperation in culture, art, cultural relics, film, television, literature, education and other fields. In 2007 and 2014, China opened Confucius Institutes at Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In November 2017, the China Cultural Center in Tel Aviv, Israel, was inaugurated. In December 2017, the Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, jointly established by Shantou University and the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, was unveiled in Shantou.
In 1994, the two countries signed an agreement on tourism cooperation. In June 2005, China announced that Israel would be an approved destination for Chinese tourists.
