Xi Jinping Meets with King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, Reaching Consensus to Establish China-Jordan Strategic Partnership and Promote China-Jordan Relations for Constant and In-depth Development

On September 9, 2015, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan. The two heads of state exchanged in-depth views and reached broad consensuses on China-Jordan relations as well as international and regional topics of common interest. Both sides decided to establish China-Jordan strategic partnership and comprehensively advance cooperation in all areas thus better benefit the two peoples.

Xi Jinping welcomed King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein to attend China-Arab States Expo 2015 in China as the head of the guest country of honor. He pointed out that for a long time, China and Jordan have maintained a healthy and stable development in their relations, witnessed active exchanges at all levels and in all sectors and made smooth progress in practical cooperation. The decision made by both countries to establish the strategic partnership serves as an important milestone in the development of bilateral relations and will strongly promote bilateral all-round cooperation to a higher level and better benefit the two peoples.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Jordan should enhance exchanges at all levels, boost communication between political parties, parliaments and non-governmental sectors, share experience in governance and administration of state affairs, support each other on issues concerning their core interests and facilitate communication and coordination on major international and regional issues. China welcomes and actively supports Jordan to participate in the construction of the Belt and Road and will work with Jordan to beef up synergy of their development strategies and deepen cooperation in such areas as energy and infrastructure construction. China encourages competent Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Jordan and backs expansion of imports from Jordan, and hopes that Jordan will continuously offer convenience and help to Chinese enterprises investing in Jordan. Both sides should expand cooperation in education, tourism, culture, news, sports and other fields and deepen China-Jordan friendship.

Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein said that Jordan cherishes its traditional friendship with China and stands ready to maintain the long-lasting friendship between the two countries. Jordan will, together with China, deepen cooperation in joint construction of the Belt and Road and promote major-project construction in such areas as energy and infrastructure in an endeavor to seek common development and prosperity. Both countries should enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs and together combat terrorism to safeguard global and regional peace and stability.

After the meeting, the two heads of state together signed the Joint Statement Between the People’s Republic of China and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Establishing the Strategic Partnership, and jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents covering education, economy, technology and other fields.
