Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah of Kuwait

On June 4, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah of Kuwait at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping asked Jaber to convey his sincere regards and best wishes to Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait. Xi Jinping said, China and the Arab countries share a proverb: "A friend in need is a friend indeed," which is a true portrayal of the China-Kuwait relationship. For the past 43 years since the establishment of China-Kuwait diplomatic relationship, the bilateral relations have gone through the tests of dramatically changing international and regional situations, yet have always maintained a sound and stable development. Both sides are good friends and good partners reliable to each other. China attaches great importance to developing China-Kuwait relations, and is willing to make joint efforts with Kuwait to promote the bilateral friendly cooperation to a new high. Both sides should strengthen exchanges, enhance mutual trust and continue the firm support for each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns. Both sides should strive to build a strategic energy partnership covering upstream, midstream and downstream, while promoting cooperation in the fields of infrastructure construction and new energy, to promote an early resumption and completion of the free trade area (FTA) negotiation between China and the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG), and to jointly build the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Silk Road On the Sea of the 21st Century, so as to strengthen connectivity, trade facilitation and peoples' understanding between the two countries and among the countries in the region.

Xi Jinping said, China pays high attention to the situation in West Asia and North Africa. China stands for the safeguarding of the international nuclear non-proliferation system, supports to set up a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, and opposes to developing nuclear weapons in any form or interfering in the internal affairs of the CCASG member countries. China supports Kuwait to play a positive role in the regional affairs, and is willing to work with countries in the region including Kuwait to promote the political solution of the relevant issues, jointly safeguarding regional peace and stability and promoting for constant new progresses of China-CCASG relations and China-Arab relations.

Jaber presented the letter from Emir Sabah of Kuwait to Xi Jinping. In the letter, Sabah extends his greetings to Xi Jinping and spoke positively on Kuwait-China relations. Jaber said that Kuwait attaches importance to its relations with China from a strategic perspective, firmly supports China in safeguarding its national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and combating the "three evil forces". Kuwait is willing to continue expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation, to actively participate in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the Silk Road On the Sea of the 21st Century, to uplift the level of bilateral trade and two-way investment, to promote cooperation in the fields of finance, infrastructure construction and logistics, and to work hard pushing forward the CCASG-China FTA negotiation. Kuwait highly appreciates the objective and just position that China always upholds on the relevant issues concerning the Middle East and the Gulf region, and hopes that China will continue playing a constructive role in promoting the realization of peace and stability in the region.
