President Michel Aoun of Lebanon Meets with Wang Yi

On June 23, 2017 local time, President Michel Aoun of Lebanon met in Beirut with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was in Lebanon for an official visit.

Michel Aoun said that Lebanon and China share friendly relations and enjoy profound traditional friendship. Both sides support each other in politics; China is the biggest trade partner of Lebanon in term of economy; the two countries witness sound cooperation in security. With frequent wars in the neighboring countries of Lebanon, it is vitally important for Lebanon to maintain its national stability. The country will never allow any external forces to interfere in its internal affairs. Thanking China for its long term and selfless assistance to Lebanon, the country welcomes China to continuously and actively participate in the domestic economic construction and development of Lebanon. The Lebanese side looks forward to the reopening of the ancient Silk Road and stands ready to actively participate in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", which is conducive to promoting regional economic and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Wang Yi said that China and Lebanon enjoy traditional friendship with mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual support. Your Excellency was elected as the new President of Lebanon last year, and President Xi Jinping sent congratulatory message at the first time. It is believed that through dialogue and consultation, all parties and religions in Lebanon could maintain unity, safeguard national security and stability and accumulate the beneficial experience from the peaceful coexistence among different civilizations. China has always advocated the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and firmly supported the efforts of Lebanon in safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity and advancing its national reconciliation.
