Wang Yi Meets with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri of Lebanon

On June 23, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beirut with Speaker of Parliament Nahih Berri of Lebanon.

Wang Yi said that since last year, the domestic political process in Lebanon has achieved positive progress. It is believed that all parties in Lebanon could attach importance to the interests of the country and its people, solve differences through dialogues and consultation, and jointly safeguard national unity, security and stability. China and Lebanon enjoy a long-term friendship, and China is willing to, together with Lebanon, enhance exchanges at all levels and consolidate the traditional friendship. The exchanges between the two legislative institutes are an important part of bilateral relations, and China hopes to further enhance exchanges and cooperation. The current situation in the Middle East is turbulent, and China has always maintained that the Middle East issue should be resolved by the countries in this region through negotiation on the basis of respecting national sovereignty and legitimate demands of all countries. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China is willing to play a constructive role to this end.

Nahih Berri said that Lebanon-China relations are friendly. Lebanon is ready to further reinforce bilateral high-level exchanges, and consolidate political mutual trust. China has always supported the stance of Lebanon and Arab countries in international affairs, and made contributions to safeguarding regional peace and stability. China's deployment of joint forces with Lebanon has played an important role in advancing peace process in southern Lebanon, which the Lebanese side is gratified with. At present, the situation in the Middle East is severe, and the issue of refugees is prominent. Lebanon is willing to be a model of resolving regional conflicts and promoting regional peace and stability.
