Spokesperson on the relations between Israel and Palestine

2000-11-15 14:15
Q: The relations between Israel and Palestine are once again becoming tense. Israeli Prime Minister Barak has ordered the suspension of final status talks held in Sweden with the Palestinian side. Could you comment on that?

A: The Chinese Government has always believed that comprehensive peace in the Middle East not only serves the interests of peoples of Middle East nations, but also conduces to peace and stability of the world. We express deep concern and regret over the recent bloodshed and conflicts erupted between the Israeli and Palestinian sides in Gaza and West Bank and the subsequent tension between the two. We hope that parties concerned will take immediate measures to calm the situation so that early progress can be made in Middle East peace talks.
