China and Türkiye

On August 4, 1971, China and Türkiye established diplomatic relations. In 2010, China and Türkiye established strategic cooperative relations. In 2015, the two countries set up an Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee Mechanism to coordinate bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, trade, security, culture and other fields.

Important visits from the Chinese side: In November 2015, President Xi Jinping traveled to Türkiye for the G20 Antalya Summit and met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In November 2016, Vice Premier Wang Yang visited Türkiye and held the first meeting of the China-Türkiye Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee Mechanism with Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek. In April 2017, Vice Premier Liu Yandong visited Türkiye. In July 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi visited Türkiye.

Important visits from the Turkish side: In September 2016, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan came to China for the G20 Hangzhou Summit. In May 2017, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. In December, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek visited China. In December 2018, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Binali Yildirim visited China. In July 2019, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited China. In June 2024, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited China. In November 2024, Turkish Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Simsek visited China and held the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee Mechanism between the two countries.

Bilateral economic and trade cooperation has developed steadily. In 2024, bilateral trade between China and Türkiye reached USD 42.885 billion, of which China's exports amounted to USD 38.115 billion and imports totaled USD 4.77 billion.

The two countries have maintained close exchanges in culture, education, tourism and other fields. In 1993, the two sides signed a cultural agreement. Since then, the two sides have signed a total of 10 annual implementation plans for the cultural agreement. In May 2017, the two sides signed an agreement to set up cultural centers in each other's country. In June 2021, the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center was inaugurated in Beijing. China has set up four Confucius Institutes in Türkiye. In June 2024, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation. At present, China and Türkiye have opened a number of direct passenger and cargo flight routes.
