On December 1, 2024, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Tajikistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Chengdu after chairing the fifth China-Central Asia Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Wang Yi said that in July this year, President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Tajikistan and jointly announced with President Emomali Rahmon the elevation of bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era, opening up new prospects for bilateral relations. Noting that China-Tajikistan friendship and mutual trust have stood the test of the changing international landscape, Wang Yi said that China supports Tajikistan in following a development path suited to its national conditions and opposes any interference by external forces in Tajikistan's internal affairs. China is ready to work with Tajikistan to follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state and accelerate each other's development and revitalization efforts through tangible cooperation outcomes.

Wang Yi said, the two sides should increase trade and China is ready to import more agricultural food and products from Tajikistan. China will promote cooperation with Tajikistan on digital technologies, artificial intelligence and other new quality productive forces, expand cooperation on the production capacity of wind power, photovoltaics and hydropower, and help Tajikistan build a "green" country. Wang Yi called on the two countries to deepen cooperation on infrastructure and connectivity, tap the potential of cross-border transportation, and explore trilateral cooperation. The two sides should also deepen people-to-people exchanges in education, tourism and other fields to bring their peoples closer. Wang Yi urged the two countries to jointly combat the "three forces" of terrorism, separatism, and extremism, prevent the spread of extremist ideologies, and work together to build a security barrier in the region. China supports Tajikistan's initiatives on glacier protection and other issues and is happy to see Tajikistan play a greater role in international and regional affairs.

Sirojiddin Muhriddin said, this year is a fruitful year for bilateral relations. The key projects of Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries are progressing smoothly and bilateral cooperation has produced numerous highlights. The biggest highlight is President Xi Jinping's historic state visit to Tajikistan. Tajikistan cherishes the high-level mutual trust between the two heads of state and thanks China for its strong support for improving people's livelihood in Tajikistan. Tajikistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and will never waver in its commitment. Tajikistan is willing to deepen all-round cooperation with China and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Tajikistan.

Sirojiddin Muhriddin stressed that Tajikistan thoroughly agrees with and supports the series of global initiatives put forward by President Xi Jinping, fully supports China in assuming the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and believes that China will take the SCO cooperation in various fields to a new level.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on other issues of common interest and concern.
