Hu Jintao Holds Group Meeting with Some Foreign Leaders

On August 10, 2008, Chinese President Hu Jintao held a group meeting in Beijing with Bosnia-Herzegovina President Haris Silajdzic, Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah, Representative of Queen Elizabeth II and Head of State of the Cook Islands Frederick Goodwin, Head of State of Luxembourg Le Grand-Duc Henri, Supreme Head of State of Malaysia Mizan Zainal Abidin, President of Micronesia Emanuel Mori, Head of State of Monaco Prince Albert II, Governor-General of New Zealand Anand Satyanand, King of Norway Harald V, Head of State of Samoa Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi, San Marino's Captains regents Rosa Zafferani and Federico Pedini Amati, President of the Confederation of Switzerland Pascal Couchepin, and President of Vanuatu Kalkot Mataskelekele, who are here for the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and relevant activities.

Li Changchun, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang were present at the meeting.

Hu warmly welcomed the leaders to attend the opening ceremony and watch the games. "With the joint efforts of the international Olympic family, we are confident the Beijing Olympics will be a distinctive and high-level sports rally," Hu said.

"In recent years the bilateral ties between China and your countries have achieved marked progress thanks to our concerted efforts," said Hu. He said China and these countries have built mutual political trust, scored remarkable results in bilateral cooperation, and enhanced personnel exchanges. "China is willing to work together with your countries to elevate bilateral relationship to a new height," said Hu.

The foreign leaders praised the Beijing Olympics opening on the night of August 8 as magnificent and well-organized, and expressed thanks to the Chinese government and people for the good arrangements made to facilitate their Olympics-related activities in Beijing. They also wished the Beijing Olympic Games a great success.

Hu also exchanged views with relevant leaders on issues of common concern.

Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo attended the meeting.
