On September 17, 2008, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with Turkmenistan's deputy prime ministers Deryageldi Orazov and Maisa Yazmuhammedova, and Tongan deputy prime minister Viliami Tau Tangi. All were on a visit to China and to attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Paralympics.

Li, on behalf of the Chinese government, welcomed the visiting leaders to the closing ceremony of the Beijing Paralympics. All the visiting leaders said the Paralympics, just like the Beijing Olympic Games, would be a complete success.

Li told Orazov and Yazmuhammedova China and Turkmenistan enjoyed a healthy and stable growth in their bilateral relations in recent years. This was evident in the increasing mutual trust in politics, fruitful cooperation in economy, trade, energy, culture and mutual support in international affairs. President Hu Jintao's August visit to Turkmenistan injected new vitality into the development of Sino-Turkmen relations, Li said. He noted China would work with the country to earnestly implement various consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries, advance mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas and push bilateral friendly cooperative ties to a new level.

Orazov and Yazmuhammedova said their country valued the relation with China, and would make every effort to push forward the bilateral friendly cooperative relations.

When meeting with Tangi, Li said the two nations had witnessed smooth growth in bilateral relations since forging diplomatic ties a decade ago. The two had coordinated well in international and regional affairs. China has always advocated that countries, big or small, rich or poor, strong or weak, are all equal. China valued its friendship with the South Pacific island nation and was ready to work together to increase the pragmatic cooperation in various fields. Li noted China would carry out its economic and technological assistance to Tonga, and make joint efforts with the country to enhance bilateral relations.

Tangi expressed his appreciation for China's support to his country's economic and social process and improvement of people’s livelihood. He added Tonga was willing to expand cooperation and enhance bilateral relations with China.
