On November 2, 2008, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao exchanged congratulatory messages with Tonga's Prime Minister Feleti Sevele to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message, Wen said China and Tonga have maintained friendly relations in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence since the two countries established diplomatic ties 10 years ago. During the past 10 years, the two nations have intensified their cooperation and exchanges in such fields as economy, trade, agriculture, education, culture and infrastructure, Wen said.
