Premier Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano of Tonga Stressing to Deepen Mutually-Beneficial Cooperation and to Promote Common Development

In the afternoon of July 22, 2013, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano of Tonga, who came China to attend the Eco Forum Global Annual Conference 2013 Guiyang.

Lord Tu'ivakano, on behalf of the government and people of Tonga, first expressed deep condolence and sincere sympathy for the casualties caused by the earthquake in Gansu Province of China.

Li Keqiang, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, thanked the government and people of Tonga for their goodwill and friendship. He said that China is making every effort to carry out the relief and rescue work for the earthquake and is taking all possible measures to rescue the trapped and treat the wounded. China will try hard to reduce the losses caused by the earthquake disaster, to ensure safety and daily necessity supply of the people in disaster areas.

Li Keqiang said that for the 15 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, China and Tonga have always treated each other with sincerity and supported each other. The bilateral relationship has enjoyed considerable progress. China is willing to expand exchanges with Tonga in various fields, to deepen cooperation in agriculture, fishery, new energy, tourism, international affairs, and other sectors, so as to push forward the healthy development of bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang also briefed the economic development and reform in China. He said that it is a common task for all countries to speed up development. The Chinese government under the new leadership is fully committed to promoting scientific development, improving the livelihood of the people and making overall plan for economy of stabilizing growth and adjusting structure while advancing reform. The proposed development and reform initiatives are being introduced in an orderly manner. China will continue to stimulate the vitalities of the market and the inner driving force for development by streamlining administration and instituting decentralization. China will continue to promote fiscal, taxation and financial reforms, which are reforms with wide-ranging implications. It is the charging fuel for the real economy and the economic structural adjustment. The sustained and healthy development of China's economy will also play an important role in boosting the recovery of world economy.

Lord Tu'ivakano said that Tonga attaches great importance to the relationship with China and admires China for the great achievements of development. Tonga is willing to work with China to expand comprehensive cooperation in various fields, to strengthen exchanges in building ecological civilization, and to uplift bilateral relations to a higher level.
