In 2015, China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) established a strategic partnership of win-win cooperation. In 2023, China and DRC established a comprehensive strategic partnership.
In May 2023, President Tshisekedi paid a state visit to China. In September 2024, President Tshisekedi came to China to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. In January 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited DRC. In January 2024, as President Xi Jinping's special envoy, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shen Yueyue went to DRC to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Tshisekedi.
In 1984, China and DRC established a bilateral economic, trade and technical cooperation mixed committee, which has held 10 meetings so far. In 2011, the two countries signed the "Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement". In 2021, China and DRC signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in jointly building the "Belt and Road". In 2024, the bilateral trade volume was 184.48 billion yuan.
In March 1980, the two countries signed a cultural agreement. In 1973, China began to send medical teams to DRC. So far, China has sent 22 medical teams, totaling 565 people. In August 2018, the first Confucius Institute in DRC, co-organized by Central South University and DRC's Foreign Affairs University, was established.
