Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong Attends the Senior Officials Meeting of the Second Horn of Africa Peace Conference

On June 24, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong attended the Senior Officials Meeting of the Second Horn of Africa Peace Conference and delivered an opening speech. Senior officials of the foreign ministries and diplomatic envoys to China from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and China International Development Cooperation Agency attended the meeting, and Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Xue Bing chaired the meeting.

Chen Xiaodong said that over the past two years since the Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa was put forward, China has been working hand in hand with countries in the Horn of Africa, focusing on the three major goals of security, development and governance, and contributing to peace and development of the region through practical actions. China is willing to continue to be a partner on the road to peace with countries in the Horn of Africa, take the Global Security Initiative as a guide, build a "great security" pattern with a broad perspective on peace, and strive to be the pioneer in jointly safeguarding peace. China is willing to continue to be a partner on the path of development, take the implementation of the Global Development Initiative as a guide, join hands for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and strive to be the pioneer in common development. China is willing to continue to be a partner on the path of justice, actively participate in the reform and development of the global governance system, safeguard international fairness and justice as well as the common interests of developing countries, and strive to be the pioneer in upholding justice. China is ready to make joint efforts with countries in the Horn of Africa to make the Horn of Africa a region of peace, development and prosperity, and to jointly build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

The participants positively evaluated China's propositions as mentioned above, appreciated the positive results achieved in the implementation of the Outlook, and thanked China for its contributions in this regard. All parties also had in-depth and candid exchanges on the next steps in implementing the Outlook and promoting peace and development in the region, and reached a series of common understandings.
