Hu Jintao Meets with Prime Minister of Lesotho Mosisili

On December 2, 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Prime Minister of Lesotho Pakalitha Mosisili in the Great Hall of the People. Both sides held friendly talks with each other.

Hu appreciatedMosisili for persistently adhering to the one-China policy, attaching great importance to relations with China and making positive contributions to the resumption of diplomatic ties between both sides and development of bilateral relations. Hu noted that though the two countries are far away from each other geographically and quite different in national conditions, they have shared similar historical experiences and are now faced with the common task of developing national economy and improving people's livelihood. Both sides also share broad consensus and common interest on the peace and development issue. To consolidate and develop bilateral friendly cooperative relations marked by long-term stability, equality and mutual benefits based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence conforms to the fundamental interest of both peoples and has won welcome and support by them. It is hoped that both sides will further build up understanding and friendship, expand exchanges and cooperation and try to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations in the new century to a new level and bring benefits to both countries and their people.

Mosisili indicated that China's peaceful development is conducive to world peace and stability and has provided precious experience for the great majority of developing nations. Lesotho deems China a reliable partner and friend and would like to further enhance existing friendship and sound cooperative relations between the two countries. He reaffirmed that Lesotho will unswervingly continue to pursue the one-China policy and support China's grand cause of reunification.

Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and other officials attended the meeting.
