Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui Meets with Liberian President Sirleaf

On May 25, 2008, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui met with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who is here in China on a transit visit and will go to Japan to attend "Tokyo International Conference on African Development".

Sirleaf expressed profound condolences and sympathy to the Chinese government and people over the Wenchuan earthquake, pledging that the Liberian side will offer support and assistance within its ability to China. Zhang, on behalf of the Chinese government, thanked for the sincere condolences offered by President Sirleaf and the Liberian government and people, saying that with the support of the international community, China will certainly win the battle against the quake disaster.

Zhang made positive comments on bilateral ties, adding that China cherishes friendship with Liberia and is ready to keep closer bilateral relations, deepen friendly cooperation in all areas and push for new progress of bilateral ties. Sirleaf expressed her satisfaction with the development of bilateral ties and wished the Beijing Olympic Games a complete success.
