On January 22, 2010, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Liberian Minister of Foreign Affairs Olubanke King Akerele.

Yang said since China and Liberia resumed diplomatic ties in 2003, the two countries had maintained political mutual trust, fruitful economic cooperation and close cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Yang appreciated Liberia's adherence to the one-China policy and its precious support for China on the Taiwan and Tibet-related issues. "China is ready to make joint efforts with Liberia to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen economic and trade cooperation, expand humanities exchanges and enhance multilateral cooperation, in a bid to achieve greater development of bilateral relations," Yang said.

Akerele said with the joint promotion of the leaders of the two countries, Liberia-China relations have been developing rapidly with fruitful cooperation in all areas. Liberia is ready to work with China to keep closer friendly exchanges, expand pragmatic cooperation and strengthen communication and coordination on the international and regional issues. Akerele also spoke highly of China's active implementation of the outcome at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), saying that her country would work with China to push forward the follow-up actions of the fourth ministerial meeting of the FOCAC.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern such as climate change and reform of the UN Security Council.
