On August 9 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan of Liberia at Liberia's Foreign Ministry in Monrovia.

Wang Yi said that the China-Liberia relations went through twists in the past, and this has reminded both sides that maintaining sound and stable development of the China-Liberia relations fully serves the fundamental interests of both countries and peoples. After the reestablishment of the diplomatic relations, both sides have mutually understood and supported each other on issues concerning their core interests. The economic and trade cooperation has brought tangible benefits to both peoples, and China-Liberia friendship has been deeply rooted in people's hearts. Since last year, the bilateral relations have stood the challenge of Ebola. China spearheaded immediate actions, launched emergent rescue, and helped Liberia become the first defeating the epidemic and start the national reconstruction process. China-Liberia friendship has entered the best period in history.

Wang Yi said that China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Liberia in the following fields according to Liberia's urgent needs and China's capacity:

First, solve urgent tasks and push forward aid projects in Liberia. China will send more medical personnel to Liberia, give play to the medical facilities of the Ebola treatment center provided by China and serve the construction of the public health system of Liberia.

Second, help Liberia crack two major bottlenecks in its development, namely, poor infrastructure and shortage of talents. China will encourage and support Chinese enterprises to actively explore participating in the construction and operation of Liberia's infrastructure such as highway, port, airport, electricity and information communication by multiple means including public-private partnership. China will increase the number of government scholarships offered to Liberia, and hold more technical and management training classes to share China's experience in economic development with Liberia.

Third, focus on improving Liberia's ability in independent and sustainable development. China will take exploring iron ore resources as a priority to promote resource cooperation, take hydropower development as a lead to carry out energy cooperation, and take economic crop production as a breakthrough to deepen cooperation in agriculture and fishery. In this process, China will help Liberia develop the processing industry, improve the added value of resources and increase local employment and tax revenue. China is willing to transfer high-quality industrial production capacity and techniques which Liberia needs most to help Liberia build the processing and manufacturing system.

Fourth, China is willing to play the respective advantages of China and other countries to conduct trilateral or multilateral cooperation in Liberia on the premise of Liberia's need, consent and lead.

Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan said that China's innumerable help to Liberia is found all over the country and has been integrated into Liberia's development process. In the course of fighting against Ebola, China was the first to provide immediate rescue to Liberia and helped Liberia overcome the crisis, giving Liberia hope amidst despair. Ebola itself is a bad thing, but it tells Liberia who is its real friend. The Liberian government and people are highly grateful to China. Liberia will implement a post-Ebola recovery plan and hopes that China can give strong support as always. Foreign Minister Wang Yi's recommendations are very helpful for Liberia to eliminate bottlenecks restricting development and achieve independent and sustainable development, and are conducive to speeding up Liberia's recovery and reconstruction, to which Liberia is looking forward.
