Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Barry Faure of Seychelles Hold the Second Round of Political Consultations Between the Two Foreign Ministries

On August 9, 2018, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and visiting Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Barry Faure of Seychelles held the political consultations between the two foreign ministries.

Chen Xiaodong expressed that China-Seychelles relations have enjoyed smooth development since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations 42 years ago. The two countries have continuously deepened political mutual trust, constantly expanded practical cooperation, and maintained sound communication and coordination on international and regional affairs. As the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be held in September, the Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with all members of the FOCAC including the Seychellois side to make the FOCAC Beijing Summit another historic event that enhances unity and cooperation between China and Africa.

Barry Faure expressed that the Seychellois side highly values its relations with China, and regards China as an important and trustworthy cooperation partner. The Seychellois side expects to attend the FOCAC Beijing Summit, supports the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and stands ready to further strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side in such areas as infrastructure, trade, tourism and maritime economy, in a bid to constantly promote relations between the two countries for greater development.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
