China and Chad

In September 2024, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno came to China to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. President Xi Jinping met with him, and the two sides agreed to upgrade the relationship between the two countries to a strategic partnership.

The mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Chad began in 1987. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in 2024, the bilateral trade volume between China and Chad was 8.06 billion yuan.

In February 2013, the governments of China and Chad signed a cultural cooperation agreement. Since 1976, China has begun to provide college scholarships to Chad.

China has sent medical teams to Chad since 1978, and has sent 19 batches so far. China has a malaria prevention and control center in Chad.

In April 1997, N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, and Liuzhou, Guangxi became sister cities. In October 2021, N'Djamena became sister cities with Chongqing, China.
