China and North Macedonia

The People's Republic of China and the Republic of North Macedonia established diplomatic relations on October 12, 1993. The two Foreign Ministries have established a consultation mechanism on foreign policies. 

In May 2017, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Poposki attended the high-level meeting of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. From 2017 to 2019, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev held bilateral meetings during the Meetings of Heads of Government of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) in Budapest, Sofia and Dubrovnik. In June 2019, North Macedonian Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi visited China and met with Chinese counterparts from CPC and CPPCC. In November, Vice President Wang Qishan met with North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski during the 2nd Paris Peace Forum. In February 2021, North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev attended the China-CEEC Summit. In October 2023, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski on the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In 2024, the bilateral trade volume between China and North Macedonia reached US$490 million, an increase of 3% year-on-year.  

The two governments have established mechanisms such as the Mixed Commission on Business Cooperation and the Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation. The two countries have signed numerous cooperation documents in the fields of science and technology, culture, agriculture, etc. 

In November 2019, the 4th China-CEEC Ministerial Forum on Cultural Cooperation was held in North Macedonia, with Minister of Culture and Tourism Luo Shugang leading the Chinese delegation. In December, the 6th regular meeting of the China-North Macedonia Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in Beijing.
