On January 22, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau.

Wang Yi said that China and Poland enjoy a traditional friendship and deep connections between the two peoples. The development of China-Poland relations is entirely based on the common interests of both sides, which is not directed against or should be influenced by any third party. As China and Poland have different historical and cultural backgrounds, it is normal for them to hold different views on some issues. China, in the spirit of mutual respect and trust, is willing to continue enhancing dialogues and communication with Poland to deepen mutual trust.

Wang Yi said that China-Poland relations enjoy a strong momentum of development, which is fueled by "three engines" - China-Poland bilateral cooperation, China-Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) cooperation and China-European Union (EU) cooperation, adding that the "three engines" should reinforce each other and form a joint force. Poland is a major Central and Eastern European (CEE) country and an important EU member. China attaches great importance to Poland's key role in China's cooperation with the CEEC and the EU, and expects more contributions from Poland. As part of China-EU cooperation, China-CEEC cooperation has always been open and transparent, contributing to the development of CEE countries as well as European integration.

Zbigniew Rau said that Poland always highly values the development of the Poland-China comprehensive strategic partnership, firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and upholds the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries among other norms of international relations. Poland hopes to work with China to make future high-level exchanges plans, deepen practical cooperation, and export more Polish products to China. Poland attaches great importance to the role of the China-CEEC cooperation in boosting and supplementing Poland-China and EU-China relations. Poland stands ready to continuously and actively participate in the important platform of pragmatic cooperation in a bid to achieve greater development of Poland-China and EU-China relations.
