On February 7, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met at request with Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov.

Sun Weidong expressed that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Russia relations have maintained a momentum of sound and steady development. The comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination and cooperation in various fields have been continuously deepened. China is ready to work with Russia to fully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state and constantly enrich the connotation of China-Russia relations in the new era.

Morgulov extended New Year's greetings to Chinese friends. He expressed his wish for closer exchanges with the Chinese side at all levels as well as extensive and in-depth exchanges on issues of mutual interest in the new year to deepen the development of China-Russia relations.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the situation in Asia, regional cooperation and regional hotspot issues. They agreed that China and Russia should strengthen strategic communication and coordination on Asian affairs and jointly safeguard regional peace, stability and development.
