China and Serbia

In 1955, China established diplomatic relations with the former Yugoslavia. After the disintegration of Yugoslavia, the Embassy of China in the former Yugoslavia was renamed to the Embassy of China in Serbia and Montenegro (2003) and then to the Embassy of China in the Republic of Serbia (2006). In 2009, China and Serbia established the strategic partnership. In 2013, the heads of state of the two countries jointly signed the "Joint Statement on Deepening Strategic Partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia". In 2016, they signed the "Joint Statement on Establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia". In May 2024, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Serbia, during which the heads of state of the two countries jointly signed the "Joint Statement on Deepening and Enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Building a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era". 

In February 2021, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić attended the China-CEEC (Central and Eastern European Countries) Summit. In May, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković visited China and held talks with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. In June, President Xi Jinping spoke by phone with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. In the same month, Chairman Li Zhanshu of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress held talks with the Speaker of Serbian National Assembly Ivica Dačić via video link. In July, Serbian President and President of the Progressive Party Aleksandar Vučić attended the Communist Party of China and World Political Parties Summit. In October, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Serbia. 

In February 2022, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks with him. In September, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York during the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In November, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Hao Mingjin co-chaired the 3rd meeting of the China-Serbia Legislative Bodies Cooperation Committee with Serbian Deputy Speaker Sandra Bozic. 

In March 2023, Serbian President and President of the Progressive Party Vučić attended the the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting via video link and delivered a speech. In September, Li Hongzhong, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Chen Wenqing, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, visited Serbia respectively. In October, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić attended the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. In November, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić attended the 6th China International Import Expo. 

In February 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Committee, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić during the Munich Security Conference. In March, Xiao Jie, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met with Serbian National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabić during the 148th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. In May, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Serbia, and Yin Li, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee, visited Serbia. In June, Serbian Deputy Speaker Marina Raguš visited China. In August, State Councilor Shen Yiqin visited Serbia. In September, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Wang Yi met with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin in Saint Petersburg, and Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivica Dačić visited China. 

In 2023, the bilateral trade volume between China and Serbia was US$4.35 billion, a year−on−year increase of 23.7%. The governments of China and Serbia have signed agreements such as the "Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the Belt and Road", the "Bilateral Cooperation Plan under the Framework of the Belt and Road Initiative", and the "Mid-Term Action Plan for the Construction of the Belt and Road (2023-2025)". They have also set up mechanisms such as the Economic and Trade Mixed Committee and signed series of cooperation agreements. 

Till now, direct flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Tianjin to Belgrade have been launched. In February 2023, China participated as the guest of honor at the 44th Belgrade International Tourism Expo. In October 2023, astronauts of Shenzhou XVI conducted space science popularization lectures for Serbian primary and secondary school students in orbit.
