On April 16, 2016, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen of Denmark in Copenhagen.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China-Denmark relations enjoy sound development. During the 4th Nuclear Security Summit held in Washington D.C. last month, President Xi Jinping held a productive meeting with Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, reaching a number of important consensus. The Chinese side is willing to make concerted efforts with the Danish side to fully carry out the important consensus reached by both leaders so as to promote the further development of China-Denmark comprehensive strategic partnership.

Yang Jiechi noted that China regards Denmark as an important strategic cooperative partner in both northern Europe and the EU. Both sides have conducted extensive and deep cooperation in the bilateral and international level. China stands ready to, together with Denmark, maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges and support the various departments of both governments and both local governments to strengthen exchanges and cooperation. Both countries should step up the formulation of cooperation action plan, dovetail China's Belt and Road initiative and the "13th Five-Year Plan" with the Strategy for Denmark's Development Cooperation and Growth Market Strategy of Denmark and comprehensively advance the practical cooperation in such areas as economy and trade, investment, energy, urbanization, connectivity, food and medicine and intellectual property protection between China and Denmark. The two sides should, in the spirit of pioneering and innovation, forge new highlights in people-to-people and cultural exchanges, constantly enhance the mutual understanding between both peoples, uphold the principle of mutual respect and equal treatment and properly handle sensitive issues in order to ensure the sustained, stable and healthy development of China-Denmark relations. It is hoped that the Danish side can play a more active role in promoting China-EU relations.

Kristian Jensen said that since last year, leaders of both Denmark and China have held several meetings and frequent exchanges, fully demonstrating the strong vitality of Denmark-China comprehensive strategic partnership. At present, the bilateral cooperation in various fields is productive, and local exchanges between provinces, regions and cities are robust. The Danish side looks forward to maintaining the momentum of high-level exchanges with China, expanding exchanges and cooperation in fields including education, technology, tourism, energy, food and medicine safety, finance regulation and green growth and striving to elevate Denmark-China relations to a new level. The Danish side admires China's achievements in economic and social development, and stands ready to conduct candid and in-depth dialogues with China in a constructive manner, and carry out mutual learning. Denmark is willing to further play an active role in advancing EU-China relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern, and agreed to strengthen communication and collaboration on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other major issues in a responsible attitude so as to jointly safeguard world peace and promote common development.
