From June 14 to 16, 2012, President Hu Jintao paid a state visit to Denmark at invitation. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi introduced the visit to the accompanying reporters.

Yang said that President Hu's visit is the first visit paid by a Chinese head of state to Denmark since China and Denmark established diplomatic ties 62 years ago and will build a new milestone in the history of the bilateral relations. At present, the world economic situation is severe and the European debt crisis remains a major concern. Hu's visit is an important diplomatic action of China with Denmark and Europe. The Danish government attached great importance to this visit and extended warm and friendly reception and a high level of courtesy. The visit also drew wide attention from the international community. Hu and the Danish leaders exchanged in-depth views and reached important consensus on strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperation and developing the China-Denmark and the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. Achieving fruitful results, the visit has great significance.

President Hu Jintao stressed that Denmark is an important EU member. China attaches great importance to the relations with Denmark from a strategic height and long-term perspective. It is willing to work with Denmark to keep the high-level exchanges, deepen the mutual understanding and trust, carefully plan the bilateral cooperation, strengthen the communications and coordination on major international and regional issues, continuously enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership and promote the long-term and stable development of the bilateral relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

The Danish leaders spoke highly of China's development achievements. They think that China plays a decisive role to maintain world peace and stability and boost global economic recovery and to sustain development in China means huge opportunities for Denmark. They expect to step up the exchanges and cooperation with China and believe President Hu's visit will raise the China-Denmark relations to higher levels.

China and Denmark enjoy strong economic complementarities and fruitful economic and trade cooperation. China has become Denmark's largest trade partner in Asia for many years in a row. The Danish economy is highly competitive and Denmark has advanced technologies and experience in the fields of energy saving and environmental protection, new energy, biomedicine and innovation. China is undergoing fast industrialization, urbanization and informationalization and is committed to readjusting the economic structure, changing the economic growth mode, expanding domestic demand, building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society and pursuing the path of sustainable development. The two countries enjoy great potential and broad prospects of cooperation. To strengthen the bilateral cooperation helps promote the economic and employment growth of both China and Denmark.

President Hu Jintao inspected the green development and listened to the introduction of energy saving, environmental protection and renewable and new energy development in Denmark. He pointed out that the two countries should combine Denmark's green technology and experience with China's needs to accelerate industrial restructuring and upgrade while deepening the bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, transport and logistics, explore cooperation in the areas of green economy, energy saving, environmental protection, technological innovation and biomedicine, vigorously boost mutual investment and the cooperation of SMEs, implement the China-Denmark ecological park cooperation project as soon as possible, establish the wind energy and smart grid innovation center and boost the cooperation projects of biomass and other renewable energy.

During the visit, entrepreneurs of both sides held a seminar where Vice Premier Wang Qishan, on behalf of President Hu Jintao, conducted face-to-face talks with the Danish business community. The relevant departments and enterprises of both countries demonstrated strong intention of cooperation and signed a number of economic, trade, investment and energy cooperation documents.

Denmark is well known for its culture and Andersen's Fairy Tales are deeply loved by the Chinese people. Meanwhile, the Danish people are showing increasing interest in the broad and profound Chinese culture. In recent years, China-Denmark cultural exchanges have grown actively. President Hu Jintao discussed with the Danish leaders to strengthen the bilateral people-to-people exchanges and visited the National Museum of Denmark. He pointed out that cultural exchange is an important link between the two peoples to deepen mutual understanding and the two sides should create a new platform, open new channels, jointly build the research and education center, support the teaching of each other's language, dispatch more students and visiting scholars to each other and enhance the scale and quality of cooperation. The Danish side said that the Danish people respect China's long history and culture. It hopes the two peoples reinforce exchanges and enhance mutual understanding and friendship. The two sides signed a number of documents on establishing the cultural centers in each other, promoting the cultural heritage protection and strengthening the educational cooperation.

Denmark holds the EU's rotating presidency. During the visit, President Hu Jintao exchanged opinions with the Danish leaders on deepening the China-EU cooperation and developing the China-EU relations. Hu pointed out that China always takes Europe a strategic priority of its foreign relations and to push forward the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership conforms to the fundamental interests of both sides and will have positive influence in the world. With regard to the European debt issue, China hopes the European economy remains stable and believes that Europe has the wisdom and ability to overcome temporary difficulties and achieve economic recovery and growth. China will join the international community to support Europe's efforts of solving the debt issue and promoting economic stability.

Yang Jiechi said lastly that President Hu Jintao's visit deepened friendship, expanded cooperation, made plan for the future, conveyed confidence and injected strong impetus in the development of the China-Denmark and the China-EU relations.
