China and Luxembourg

In 2013, the friendly and cooperative relations between the People's Republic of China and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg continued to develop smoothly.

Regular contacts were maintained between the senior leaders of the two countries. In March, Luxemburg's Le Grand-duc Henri sent a congratulatory message to Xi Jinping on his election as the Chinese President. President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Laurent Mosar sent a congratulatory message to Zhang Dejiang on his election as the NPC Chairman. In July, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxemburg Jean Asselborn visited China. Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with him. In December, Crown Prince Guillaume and Deputy Prime Minister Etienne Schneider led a business delegation to China. Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng, Governor of the People's Bank of China Zhou Xiaochuan and Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission Xiao Gang met with them.

Business cooperation was fruitful and mutual investment was expedited. Luxembourg maintained its position as the largest destination of China's investment in the EU. In March, the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation succeeded in acquiring the Innovation Electronics Engineering (IEE) of Luxembourg. In October, the China Construction Bank opened a branch office in Luxembourg. In December, the Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Co, Ltd. purchased part of the stakes of Luxembourg's Cargolux Airlines International.

Exchanges in culture and education continued to deepen. In February, the Chinese Language and Cultural Center in Luxemburg was established. The "Cultures of China, Festival of Spring" art troupe went to Luxemburg to put on performances. In April, a Luxemburg film delegation participated in the Third Beijing International Film Festival. A "Luxemburg Film Day" was organized by the Festival organizers.
