Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato of Papua New Guinea

On November 11, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at request with Foreign Minister Rimbink Pato of Papua New Guinea in Da Nang, Vietnam. Wang Yi said that as bilateral relations have entered a new stage of rapid development in recent years, China is willing to make joint efforts with Papua New Guinea to further push forward the development of bilateral relations. China fully supports Papua New Guinea in making the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2018 a success and welcomes Papua New Guinea to participate in the Belt and Road construction as well as the China International Import Expo in 2018. Wang Yi stressed that the Taiwan problem concerns the core interests of China and hoped Papua New Guinea to properly handle Taiwan-related issues in strict accordance with the one-China policy. Wang Yi also introduced major accomplishments and great significance of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Rimbink Pato congratulated on the successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress and President Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. Rimbink Pato expressed that Papua New Guinea is willing to be a sincere friend of China and will resolutely follow the one-China policy and put it into practice. Papua New Guinea hopes to cooperate with China in various fields and is confident to make the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2018 a success with the support of China and the international community, so as to promote regional integration process.
