Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Peter O'Neill of Papua New Guinea (PNG)

On April 26, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met with Prime Minister Peter O'Neill of Papua New Guinea (PNG) at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Li Keqiang said that China-PNG relations and cooperation enjoy sound development. President Xi Jinping's successful visit to PNG last year elevated bilateral relations to a new level. The Chinese side is ready to align the Belt and Road Initiative with the development strategy of PNG, expand practical cooperation in various fields, accelerate the joint feasibility study on the bilateral free trade agreement, and better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. It is hoped that PNG will play a constructive leading role in the Pacific Island countries and promote the constant and in-depth development of China's overall relations with them.

Peter O'Neill said that China is a strong development partner of PNG. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly. PNG thanks the Chinese side's support for its development and appreciates the Belt and Road Initiative, which has given a strong boost to PNG's development. PNG firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, investment and other fields, strive to complete the negotiation on bilateral free trade agreement and jointly promote the better development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.

After the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Peter O'Neill jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
