In 2021, the friendly and cooperative relations between the People’s Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda maintained sound growth momentum.

Political mutual trust between the two countries continued to deepen. In July, as the CPC marked its centenary, Governor-General Rodney Williams, leader of the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labor Party (ABLP) and Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Chairman of the ABLP and Minister of Foreign Affairs Paul Chet Greene, and Chairperson of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Gisele Isaac sent congratulatory letters respectively to General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping. In July, Foreign Minister Greene and Chairperson Isaac attended upon invitation the CPC and World Political Parties Forum via video link. In December, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the third Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, and Foreign Minister Paul Chet Greene attended online.

Practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries advanced steadily. In June, a batch of China-donated vaccines arrived in Antigua and Barbuda. Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Foreign Minister Paul Chet Greene and Health Minister Molwyn Joseph welcomed its arrival at the airport and delivered remarks in appreciation of China’s donation. China continued to provide government scholarships and training opportunities for Antigua and Barbuda. The two countries maintained close communication and coordination on regional and international issues.

On 6 December, China’s new ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda Zhang Yanling presented her credentials to Governor-General Rodney Williams.
