In 2021, the friendly and cooperative relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas maintained good momentum of growth.
Political mutual trust between the two countries continued to deepen. In June, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis and leader of the Progressive Liberal Party Philip Edward Davis sent congratulatory letters respectively to General Secretary Xi Jinping on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the CPC. In September, Premier Li Keqiang and State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi sent congratulatory messages to the new Prime Minister of the Bahamas Philip Davis and the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service Frederick Mitchell respectively. In October, NPC Chairman Li Zhanshu sent congratulatory messages to the new President of the Senate Julie LaShell Adderley and the new Speaker of the House of Assembly Patricia Deveaux. The two countries maintained good communication and cooperation in international affairs.
Exchanges and cooperation between the two countries made progress in various fields. China sent multiple batches of COVID containment supplies and medical equipment to the Bahamas. China and the Bahamas signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation Between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, and held the Bahamas-China Trade and Investment Forum. China continued to provide government scholarships and training opportunities for the Bahamas.
On 31 March, China’s new ambassador to the Bahamas Dai Qingli presented her credentials to Governor-General Cornelius Alvin Smith.
