China and Bahamas

In 2013, the friendly relations between the People's Republic of China and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas continued to deepen with smooth progress in their cooperation in various fields.

The two countries maintained high-level exchanges and further enhanced political mutual trust. During his visit to Trinidad and Tobago in June, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister of the Bahamas Perry Christie. In January, CPPCC Vice Chairman Li Zhaozhuo visited the Bahamas. In November, Deputy Governor General Marguerite Pindling and Foreign Minister Frederick Mitchell of the Bahamas paid an unofficial visit to China. In December, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Hangsheng signed with Foreign Minister of the Bahamas Frederick Mitchell the Agreement Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Bahamas on Mutual Visa Exemption in the Bahamas.

In December, the new Chinese Ambassador to the Bahamas Yuan Guisen presented his credentials to Governor General of the Bahamas Arthur Foulkes.

The two countries made steady progress in business cooperation projects and had closer exchanges in the cultural, educational, military and other fields. The China-assisted airport expressway project in the Bahamas was completed and delivered. The construction of a Cable Beach resort contracted by China State Construction Engineering Corporation with contractor capital made steady progress. In August, Henan Culture and Arts Troupe staged performances in the Bahamas and took part in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the independence of the Bahamas. The Junkanoo performance troupe came to China twice. The Bahamas sent groups of personnel to China for various training programs and workshops. The Chinese scholarship and Confucius Institute programs progressed smoothly. In October, Commodore of the Bahamas Defense Force Roderick Bowe attended the Forum for Senior Defense Officials from Caribbean and South Pacific Countries in China.
