On April 26, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs and CARICOM Affairs Dennis Moses of Trinidad and Tobago, who was in China for the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Wang Yi said that although China and Trinidad and Tobago are far away from each other, they are closely linked by heart and have always supported and helped each other, setting an example of equality and mutually beneficial cooperation between big and small countries. The Belt and Road Initiative is a platform for international cooperation. All countries interested in the initiative are welcome to participate in it to complement each other's strengths and achieve common development. The cooperation between China and Trinidad and Tobago under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative has achieved positive results. The two sides should take this opportunity to strengthen cooperation in energy, finance, production capacity and infrastructure construction and push for greater progress in China-Trinidad and Tobago relations.

Dennis Moses said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Trinidad and Tobago and China 45 years ago, bilateral relations have always maintained steady development. Trinidad and Tobago is the first English-speaking Caribbean country to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese side on cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Trinidad and Tobago is willing to deepen cooperation, support each other on multilateral international arenas and strengthen coordination with the Chinese side.
