In 2021, the relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Commonwealth of Dominica witnessed sound and steady development.
Political mutual trust between the two countries continued to deepen. In January, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit spoke on the phone and reached important common understanding on issues including bilateral relations and anti-COVID cooperation, charting the course for the China-Dominica relationship. In his capacity as the leader of the Dominica Labor Party, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit sent a congratulatory letter to General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping on the centenary of the CPC. In November, Prime Minister Skerrit attended the third China CELAC Political Parties’ Forum and delivered remarks via video link. In December, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the third Ministerial Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum, and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Dominica Kenneth Darroux attended the meeting via video link. China donated batches of anti-COVID supplies to Dominica. Vaccines provided by China arrived in Dominica in March. The two countries maintained good communication and collaboration on major international and regional issues.
Practical cooperation between the two countries was fruitful. Despite COVID, the two sides extended their agricultural technical cooperation for another three years. The Dominica-China Friendship Hospital project entered its final stage. Letters were exchanged on a supplemental agreement concerning the post-disaster school reconstruction project. The agricultural science and technology complex project continued to make progress.
People-to-people exchanges advanced steadily. China continued to provide Dominica government scholarships and human resources training opportunities. New progress was made in cultural and sports exchanges, including on the Confucius Classroom and table tennis.
